The total includes only materials with pricing entered. It excludes labor, delivery, tax, tools, rental, excavation labor, and disposal.

What this project calculator estimates

This paver patio calculator combines the main material quantities for one rectangular patio: excavation volume, gravel base, bedding sand, pavers, and optional landscape fabric, edge restraint, and joint material.

One shared footprint

The patio length and width are entered once. The calculator derives the shared area and perimeter, then passes the normalized project dimensions into the material calculators used for gravel, sand, and pavers.

Assumptions you control

You can edit base depth, bedding depth, paver thickness, material densities, ordering allowances, package quantities, optional roll or section sizes, and the pricing basis for each priced material. Base and bedding requirements can depend on site conditions, climate, manufacturer instructions, and local requirements.

Optional materials

Landscape fabric, edge restraint, and polymeric sand or other joint material are optional sections. Fabric uses an approximate area-based roll estimate. Joint-material bags use the coverage rate you enter from the specific product and joint configuration.

What is not included

The material total is not a full installed project cost. It excludes labor, delivery, tax, tool rental, excavation labor, disposal, drainage work, and supplier-specific fees.

Worked example

A 10 ft by 12 ft patio is 120 square feet with a 44 ft perimeter. With a 4 in gravel base, 1 in bedding layer, 2 in paver thickness, and 1 in extra excavation depth, the total excavation depth is 8 in and the excavation volume is about 2.96 cubic yards. The same 120 square foot footprint is used for the gravel, sand, and paver material estimates.
